Monash University, one of Australia’s leading institutions for education and research, has successfully launched its new Recollect platform, implemented by DatacomIT. This major initiative brings together the University’s Library and Archives collections into one unified, accessible online destination.
Monash selected Recollect for its powerful discoverability features and the flexibility of its metadata templates – key elements that allowed the platform to be tailored to meet the needs of both the Library and Archives teams. The ability to create a cohesive, intuitive experience across distinct collections was a driving force behind the decision.
With this implementation, Monash has taken a significant step forward in ensuring long-term access to its rich and diverse holdings. The new Recollect site offers enhanced navigation, searchability, and user engagement, making it easier than ever for students, researchers, and the wider public to explore and discover material of lasting cultural and academic value.
A standout feature of Monash University’s Recollect site is its impressive Special Collections, particularly the Asian collections. Among them, the Japanese fairy tales, translated into English and accompanied by beautifully detailed illustrations are a highlight. These visually captivating stories not only appeal to casual readers but also serve as a valuable resource for cultural and literary studies.
This project highlights Monash’s commitment to digital transformation, preservation, and accessibility. The collaboration with DatacomIT and the adoption of Recollect reflect a shared vision for delivering modern, user-focused digital collection experiences.
