DatacomIT & ABS National Census Archive
Eamonn Donohoe (r), Business Development Manager of DatacomIT and John Cheasley |
With over 52% of Australian respondents to the 2001 National Census selecting "yes" to the option to allow their 2001 Census information to be kept for 99 years, the ABS turned to DatacomIT for a secure archiving solution. The images are stored by the National Archives for 99 years and thereafter will be released as a public document, providing future generations with a valuable historic record. This is the first time in Australia that an archive project of this type and scale has been attempted. Over an eight-month period, DatacomIT processed over 2844 rolls, each roll containing responses from approximately 7000 people.
